Arriba History
In 1952 the Vanslembrouck family emigrated to South Africa from Belgium, opening the Belgica Hotel in St. George`s Street in Durban a year later. In 1960 their son Hugo opened an a la carte restaurant called The Rubenshof at the hotel and in 1963 Cest si Bon, Durban`s first top quality confectionery was opened and soon became renowned for it`s pastries, cakes and chocolates. In 1968 Werner, the younger son, joined the family business. In 1985 A decision was made to expand the chocolate side of Cest si Bon and market it under the name of Arriba Chocolates. Arriba was named after the aromatic cocoa bean. In 1990 Arriba Chocolates moved from down town Durban to its purpose built premises in Adrain Rd, Stamford hill. In 2000 Arriba leant on Hugo`s baking talents to start baking wedding and special occasion cakes which are finished off with Renata`s chocolate creations. Through the companys long history, the people of Kwa Zulu Natal have come to expect only the very best products from Arriba.
You can buy a full range of hand-crafted Belgian chocolate (including Milk, Dark chocolate and diabetic) from the factory`s shop at 25 Adrain Rd, Stamfordhill.
